An open software delivery framework
Software as an Operation
The gap in the stack now has a name. SaaO is the delivery model where custom software is built, operated and governed on the client's behalf. The client just uses it.
The definition
Software as an Operation (SaaO) is a delivery model where custom software is built, deployed, operated, maintained, secured and evolved on the client's behalf. The client interacts only with the working product, never with the code, the infrastructure or the development process.
The stack
The last missing layer.
Every layer of the stack named a responsibility someone else takes on for you. The last one was missing.
| Model | What the client gets | What the client must do |
|---|---|---|
| IaaS | Virtual machines | Everything above the hardware |
| PaaS | A runtime environment | Write, deploy and maintain code |
| FaaS | Function execution | Write functions, design triggers |
| SaaS | A generic application | Adapt their business to the tool |
| SaaO | A custom application, running | Use it |
SaaO is to SaaS what SaaS was to on-premise software.
Why now
A deploy is an event. Operation is a continuous service.
The industry spent a decade optimizing software construction until it became almost trivial. Today anyone can generate working code in minutes. But building is the first 20% of the problem. The remaining 80% (maintaining, securing, scaling, responding to incidents, evolving) still has no owner for most businesses in the world.
Code is becoming a commodity. Trust is becoming the product.
The SaaO Cycle
Every operation feeds the library.
Every operation feeds the library. Every deployment improves all future ones. The cycle does not end: it turns.
The three autonomies
01
Autonomous construction.
Specialized agents build from proven blueprints, not from a blank page.
02
Autonomous operation.
Monitoring, security, backups and incidents without humans in the operational loop.
03
Autonomous governance.
Verifiable identity, declared intent and an immutable audit trail for every action.
You do not need all three autonomies to start. You need to own the operation. The rest is a ladder, and the framework describes it level by level.
